Stedia answers from your own documents and names the source.
A knowledge base holds documents Stedia searches when it answers: a handbook, your price lists, your contracts. Stedia looks there first and names the document the answer came from. The documents come from your company’s OneDrive or an Amazon S3 bucket. For a single file, attach it right in the chat.
Four knowledge bases under Resources, each with its description and status. Example data.
How it works
An admin creates it
Name the knowledge base after what it holds. A few minutes later it is ready.
The documents come in
Add a data source, and Stedia reads and indexes its files on the schedule you choose.
You ask in the chat
Switch on “Knowledge” and ask, and the answer names the document it came from.
In detail
What belongs in it
Documents whose answers you need again and again: a product handbook, price lists, contracts, support answers. A knowledge base is the place for answers that live in your own files. Everyone in the workspace sees the list under Resources → Knowledge, and only owners and admins create or change one.
Where the documents come from
A knowledge base reads its files from data sources: your company’s OneDrive or an Amazon S3 bucket. For OneDrive, a Microsoft 365 admin approves Stedia’s app once, and “Copy link for your IT admin” sends them the request. Stedia only reads, and it skips encrypted, unsupported and very large files. Google Drive, SharePoint and a website are listed in the picker as “Soon”.
Kept up to date
A new data source syncs once a day, at a quiet hour. You can switch it to weekly, monthly or on demand, and “Sync now” starts a sync right away. Include and exclude patterns limit which files are read. Images and figures inside PDF, Word and PowerPoint files, audio and video are read too once you switch them on.
In the chat and in assistants
Once a knowledge base is ready, a “Knowledge” button appears in the chat box next to web search. Switch it on, and Stedia searches your knowledge bases on every message you send. An assistant with its own knowledge bases searches them on every question, without the button.
Who can reach what
From OneDrive, each person only gets answers from files they can open there. With an S3 bucket, anyone whose chat or assistant can reach the knowledge base finds everything in it, so only put in documents everyone with access may read. Under Settings → Tools and knowledge, admins switch a knowledge base off for the whole workspace, and on Business and Enterprise per team.
For one question, attach the file
Not every document needs a knowledge base. For a single question, attach the file in the chat with “Add photos & files”: images, PDF, CSV, TXT or Markdown, up to 4 MB each. Files you upload and files Stedia makes are listed under Resources → Files.
